Feast of the Baptism of Our Lord


Idiomelon 1

The voice of the Lord upon the waters crieth saying: Come, receive ye all the Spirit of wisdom, the Spirit of understanding, the, the Spirit of the fear of God, of Christ, who is made manifest.

Today the nature of the waters is sanctified, and the Jordan doth burst forth and turneth back the flood of its streams, seeing the Master wash Himself.

As a man Thou didst come to the river, O Christ the King, hastening to receive the baptism of a servant, at the hands of the Forerunner, because of our sins, O Thou Good One who lovest man.

Idiomelon 4

To the voice of the one crying in the wilderness, prepare ye the way of the Lord, Thou didst come, O Lord, taking the form of a servant, asking for baptism, Thou knowest not sin. The waters saw Thee and were afraid. The Forerunner began to tremble and cried saying. How shall the servant lay hands on the Master? Sanctify me and the waters, O Savior who takest away the sins of the world.
